An extravaganza of music, fashion & dance! ExtraVaaKhanga 2009 presented by FunkHouse Entertainment and Sponsored by MN FashionFunkhouse Entertainment has created a fabulous showcase of African-themed fashion by local and international designers in elevating the African experience in Minnesota. This mind-blowing Mn Fashion sponsored event will highlight the changing face of the international fashion industry. The ExtraVaaKhanga Runway Show on July 3rd (8pm to 11pm) will be held in downtown Minneapolis. Tickets are $15.00 for general admission, $25.00 for standing VIP and $40 for VIP seats by the runway.

This year's show will feature: urban wear from Bongo Republic (from Tanzania, based in St. Louis, Missouri); contemporary khangawear from Lalesso (a pair of designers from South Africa and Kenya) and Utamaduni Wear (Kenya); and high fashion designs from Bothdol Fashion (a Sudanese fashionista in Minneapolis) and Modahnik (born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and lives in the windy city of Chicago). In June 2009 South Africa launched the first Pan African fashion week; a successful fashion show that highlighted the continent's creative and vibrant designs; while in January for the first time in history the New York Fashion Week featured four African designers: Xuly Bet, Stoned Cherrie, Momo, and Tiffany Amber) demonstrating that African designers are the new cultural explosion in the fashion industry. ExtraVaaKhanga's lineup will prove this yet again. |
